Throughout the month of November, adoption fees for animals seven years and older will be waived at the Richardson Animal Shelter. The promotion comes in honor of Adopt a Senior Pet Month.
Older pets often have to wait much longer than kittens and puppies to get adopted, according to a Facebook post from the shelter.
Adopting a senior pet comes with a few advantages over adopting a younger animal, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Here are the advantages the organization lists:
- Senior pets don’t require the constant monitoring and training that puppies and kittens do.
- Many senior pets are already housetrained.
- Since senior pets are fully grown, you’ll be immediately aware of important information like personality type and grooming requirements, making it easier to choose the perfect pet for your family.
- Since senior pets have already grown into their personalities, they are usually pretty easygoing and set in their ways.
Those interested in adopting can visit this Richardson animal shelter page for more information or to schedule an appointment at the shelter.
