But internet dating isn’t for everyone and some people may prefer meeting potential love interests face to face.

For those who would rather make a romantic connection in person, there is a range of offline events that are available for singletons looking to put themselves out there.
One method is speed dating, where you can meet and speak to a whole range of people for five minutes at a time before moving on to the next person.
Essex Live reporters Arike Idris and Mel King went to a speed dating event in Chelmsford to see what it was like.
How it worked
In order to attend the speed dating event, those looking to take part must pre-book tickets for their chosen night via the DesignMyNight website.
There are tickets available to book for £20 each and as this event was tailored to people looking for a date of the opposite sex you are asked to choose either a male or female ticket.
We went to the speed dating event in Slug & Lettuce in Chelmsford City Centre.
As we approached Slug & Lettuce, we were feeling more and more nervous with each step we took.
But, we put our nerves aside and ploughed through into the bar.
We told one of the bar staff that we were here for the speed dating event, and they informed us that it was in the upstairs area of the bar.
To ease our nerves a bit, we got ourselves a drink and headed upstairs ready to potentially find ourselves a man.
The speed dating event took place in Slug and Lettuce in Chelmsford
Once we arrived, the host took our names and emails and gave us a number, which would be used by the men to write comments about how they felt about each woman.
We were then shown to our tables and we waited for the speed dating to begin.
