Dr. June: A friend of mine has started dating a guy I went out with a couple times – cleveland.com

Dear Dr. June: This guy and I went on a couple dates. It was OK. Nothing happened, not even a kiss goodnight, and we agreed we are not a match.

A couple weeks later, he met my girlfriend. She told me about this nice guy, but I didn’t put two and two together. We decided to meet up a party and that’s where I met him. He’s the same guy I went out with a couple of times. It was awkward. We laughed and I told her later that it was all good. She feels weird about it even though they hit it off. She’s been seeing him less, but I don’t think it’s a big deal.

Don’t you think she should go for it if they like each other? Signed, Betz

Dear Betz: I can see how that was awkward. The operative word being “was.”

You found out and laughed about it. Then you moved on. You and the guy didn’t like each other romantically and nothing happened between the two of you. I’m sure you’ve told her this and you have moved on. She should too.

It’s not always easy to meet someone you connect with that leads to a good relationship. There’s no reason to miss this opportunity. Her seeing him less to end up not seeing him at all is not a good thing. She should move forward and see where it leads.

You’ve already given her your blessing. So, agreed. No big deal.
