On paper, it’s easy to write-off the iPhone 13 Pro as an iterative upgrade for Apple’s flagship handset. But while it may not boast the kind of gimmicky additions that scream sexy out of the gate, there’s a lot more going on under the hood than just a little extra horsepower. Both the Pro and it’s larger sibling, the Pro Max, boast significantly larger batteries (18.5% in the latter case), which finally means you can get through the day without reaching for a charger as the evening wears on. But even the extra longevity pales in comparison to the Pro’s camera game, which is now at a level that almost seems ridiculous for a phone, delivering DSLR-quality snaps that genuinely stop you in your tracks, thanks to a new f/1.5 aperture and a bigger sensor that allows for bright, clear photography in even the dingiest of environments. Not to mention an upgraded ultrawide lens, 3x telephoto and the addition of macro photography. It is, quite simply, the best mobile phone camera currently available. All of which should be enough to have you reaching for your wallet without even touching on the ProMotion OLED display, which makes its way across from iPad Pro and varies the refresh rate from 10Hz, all the way up to a blistering 120Hz, for silky smooth scrolling when needed and low power consumption when not. A low key triumph, then, but a triumph nonetheless.
